Sunshine Rotary Club’s uniform act of goodwill

Old police uniforms are being given a second lease of life. Sunshine Rotary is one of many clubs taking part in a uniform recycling project.

The light blue shirts are being de-badged and made ready for use as regular clothes after navy blue police uniforms were introduced earlier this year.

Rotary clubs have collected about 120,000 of the old shirts and up to 30,000 pairs of pants.

The clothes are sent to Rotary’s Donations-in-Kind warehouse in West Footscray before being shipped to Third World countries.

“We gathered uniforms from the Sunshine and Caroline Springs police stations and 17 club members, their family and friends de-badged more than 1000 uniforms,” Sunshine Rotary spokesman Tony Ebejer said.
