Shooting death goes to trial

A Sunshine man accused of the shooting death of his former girlfriend at his parents’ home has been sent for trial. Nelson Lai, 34, pleaded not guilty at his committal hearing in Melbourne Magistrates Court last week to the murder of Rekiah O’Donnell, 22, who died from a gunshot wound to her head at a home in Sunshine North on October 11 last year. The committal hearing was told Lai said to his father: ‘’I didn’t know there was one in it’’ while the younger man and his mother tried to revive Ms O’Donnell. Magistrate Barry Schultz remanded Lai to the Supreme Court on July 18.
