A man accused of fatally shooting his former girlfriend at his parents’ home has been committed to stand trial for murder.
Nelson Lai, 34, pleaded not guilty to one count of murdering Rekiah O’Donnell at the end of his committal hearing in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
Ms O’Donnell, 22, died from a gunshot wound to the head in a home in Sunshine North on the morning of October 11 last year.
Police allege Mr Lai assaulted Ms O’Donnell during their relationship and once threatened to kill her.
The committal hearing was told Mr Lai said to his father ”I didn’t know there was one in it” while the younger man and his mother tried to revive Ms O’Donnell.
Magistrate Barry Schultz on Wednesday found there was sufficient evidence to find Mr Lai guilty of murder.
Mr Lai was remanded in custody to appear before the Supreme Court on July 18.
