A car fire in Caroline Springs was a deliberate act following a domestic dispute, police say.
Detective Acting Sergeant Chris Egan, of the Melton Crime Investigation Unit, told Star Weekly the car owner’s partner had been arrested and interviewed in relation to the fire and was expected to be charged.
“It’s family violence, domestic-related,” Detective Acting Sergeant Egan said.
Neighbours were woken by a series of loud bangs about 2.30am on Monday, June 16, when a car burst into flames in an off-street car park at a block of townhouses in Cobaw Circuit.
A black Holden Commodore, which had specialised number plates, was alight from the car bonnet.
A CFA officer who lived nearby began to extinguish the flames and move other cars from the scene.
Four CFA and MFB crews attended and quickly had the fire under control.
The car was a write-off, with its front destroyed by the fire.
No damage was caused to nearby cars or townhouses.
