Fernwood’s big birthday

Fernwood Fitness is turning 25 and celebrating the milestone with open days at its Melton and Cairnlea centres on June 25. There will be a fun ’80s theme, so dig out your best fluro get-ups and leg warmers.

The write stuff

Brimbank writers can share in prices worth more than $3500 by entering the Brimbank short story, poetry and songwriting competitions as part of the Brimbank

Writers Festival. Submissions close on July 11 at 5pm and can be entered at www.brimbank.vic.gov.au/writersfestival. Categories include adult short story,

teenage short story, children’s open category, ESL (English as a second language) open category, adult poetry, teenage poetry, and songwriting. An

award ceremony will be held at Visy Cares Hub, 7pm on September 15.

Writers workshops

Writers can attend two workshops hosted by well-known writers as part of the Brimbank Writers Awards. Kids Writing Workshops will be hosted by Michael Wagner on Tuesday, July 1, from 1.30-2.30pm at Deer Park library, and by Sofie Laguna on Wednesday, July 2, from 11am to noon at St Albans library.

Disability and inclusion grants offered

People seeking information about community grants related to disability should attend an information session at the Sunshine Meeting Space, corner of Wilkinson Road and Islington Street, from 10am to midday on Tuesday, June 24.
