From running safari and camping tours in Africa and South America to putting out fires, Chris Tanner has always relished a challenge.
Mr Tanner, 33, recently graduated as a CFA career firefighter and started work at Caroline Springs fire station last Tuesday.
“I wanted something where I could give back to the community, something that was going to be rewarding,” the Templestowe resident said of his career change.
After spending nine years running tours for travellers from around the globe, Mr Tanner returned to Australia two years ago to work for a transport company. He realised that an office job wasn’t for him and applied to join the CFA.
He was one of 21 new career firefighters who graduated from the CFA’s Fiskville training centre after completing a 16-week program.
