Sought couple ram police car

A Brimbank police car is thought to be a write-off following a ramming incident in Sunshine last month involving two allegedly drug-affected thieves.

The crash followed a series of thefts from 10 locations in Sunshine and Caroline Springs after a credit card was stolen from an unattended handbag at a Deer Park medical centre in Hatchlands Road just before 9am on May 16.

Brimbank crime investigation unit detectives are appealing for information on a man and woman who allegedly stole about $3000 worth of cigarettes, alcohol, mobile phones and clothing.

Detective Senior Constable Matt Pesci says police also believe the couple was involved in a police vehicle being rammed on Thursday, May 22. “It’s [the car] gonna be a write-off; it’s badly damaged,” he said. “We have a good idea of who they are, but we can’t say who as there are outstanding court matters.”

Police say they approached a car parked in Clarke Street, Sunshine, which had been reported as stolen. As they approached, they saw a man and a woman on the front seat smoking what was believed to be an ice pipe. When police knocked on the passenger-side window the driver put the car into reverse and accelerated heavily, slamming into the police vehicle. The driver then drove forward, causing police to take evasive action. Information to Crime Stoppers, 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au
