It was third time lucky for 21-year-old Tegan Martin who was crowned Miss Universe Australia 2014 at  a glittering ceremony at Sofitel Melbourne On Collins on Friday, June 6.

Tegan, who hails from Newcastle in New South Wales, the hometown of Jennifer Hawkins, had twice been runner-up in the Miss Universe Australia pageant before finally winning the prestigious title.

More than 350 guests attended the final that saw contestants take part in a swimwear show and evening gown parade.

The top five contestants were faced with a question and answer session from the judges where they had to address issues such as domestic violence, budget cutbacks, the gender pay gap and the globalisation of the retail marketplace.

Judges this year included former Olympic swimmer Leisel Jones, dance instructor Jason Coleman, and Real Housewives of Melbourne fan favourite Gina Liano.

Guests at the event included Coxy’s Big Break presenter Lee Chan, Miss Universe Australia 2013 Olivia Wells, Chantelle Ford from The Block and Dr David Chong from Operation Smile.

Tegan will now go on to represent Australia in the Miss Universe international final.
