Filmmakers can now submit their work to the Sunshine Short-Film Festival. Films of less than five minutes must follow themes of Sunshine and Halloween. Entries close September 30.

Brimbank Writers Awards
More than $3500 in prizes is up for grabs for anyone who lives, works or studies in Brimbank. The categories include adult short story, teenager short story, children’s open category, adult poetry, and songwriting. Submissions open Monday, June 2, and close at 5pm on Friday, July 11.

Parents Without Partners
The Keilor branch of Parents Without Partners will host a dance on Friday, June 20, at the ICKA Club, 7 Keilor Park Drive, East Keilor. Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets are $5 for members, $10 for guests. Strictly no T-shirts, jeans or sneakers.

Keilor Garden Club
The Keilor Garden Club meets on the last Friday of the month at the Keilor Primary School in Kennedy Street at 8pm. Come and meet fellow gardeners and share your experiences. Young people are encouraged to attend.

Hip-hop dancing

Stitch in time
Free knitting and crochet workshops, leading to the ‘bombing’ of Delahey Community Centre, will be held on each Monday from June 2 to July 7 from 12.30pm. Each workshop will begin with a story-telling session led by a Wurundjeri Elder and include lunch. Materials supplied.

Concert band vacancies
The Western Region Concert Band is looking for percussion, brass and sax players. The band rehearses on Saturday mornings at 9 in the Errington Community Centre, St Albans. Entry is via a side gate next to the football oval.
