West roads upgraded

More than $9 million has been spent maintaining and improving road surfaces across the west. Western Metropolitan MPs Andrew Elsbury and Bernie Finn said key arterial roads – including the West Gate Bridge and roads in St Albans, Altona, Newport and Werribee – had undergone asphalting, waterproofing, sealing and pothole repairs as part of a summer maintenance program.
“These targeted upgrades have occurred on major freight and commuter routes as the safety of road users is our government’s priority,” Mr Finn said. “Summer is an ideal time to carry out these works as the holiday period means significantly less traffic on the road and minimal disruption to the travelling public.”

Sons of the West

Brimbank council has thrown its
support behind the Sons of the West campaign, which helps men residing and working in Brimbank to live healthier lives. Brimbank administration chairman
John Watson said the 12-week campaign organised by the Western Bulldogs was a positive step in promoting healthy living in the city. “The program specifically tackles the health challenges faced by men in the west through free health checks, education sessions and men’s health events,” Mr Watson said. The program starts on June 1 and is open to men 18 or older who live or work in the west. Education sessions and health events will be run throughout the program.
