UPDATE: Two children have been taken to hospital after being trapped inside an overturned school bus for at least half an hour in Northcote.
The two young boys, students at St Paul’s College in Kew, a school for children with disabilities and complex medical needs, were travelling to school when the minibus and a car collided in Kellett Street, about 8.30am on Wednesday.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman Paul Bentley said that when paramedics and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade arrived at the scene of the crash, they found a damaged car and an overturned bus with two children trapped inside.
“There were three adults and two primary school-aged boys inside the minivan,” Mr Bentley said.
“The adults were able to get out of the bus, and two of them went back to comfort the children, who were finding it difficult to get out.”
Mr Bentley said the boys received minor injuries, and were taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
St Paul’s College spokeswoman Rebecca Ryan said the school principal left to be with the children as soon as their parents were alerted.
The two people inside the car were not injured in the crash, Mr Bentley said.
