TAC Cup
The Western Jets continued to charge up the TAC Cup ladder with a fourth consecutive win on Saturday. The Jets were far too good for the Bendigo Pioneers, finishing 66-point winners, 14.10 (94) to 4.4 (28). After taking a six-point lead into quarter time, the Jets set up the win in a blistering second term, piling on five goals to Bendigo’s one. Liam Duggan continued his great start to the season with another best-on-ground performance, while up forward Mitchell Norton was the club’s leading goalscorer with a bag of four. The win improved the Jets’ record to 4-3, taking the side to fourth on the ladder. The Jets’ next match is against the Northern Knights on May 25.
Big V basketball
It was a tough Saturday night for
Keilor’s Big V division 1 women’s
basketball side, with the Thunder going down to Latrobe City by 25 points. The Thunder was able to stick with Latrobe in the first quarter, but a 22-11 second term blew the game open. Keilor fought back in the third term, winning the quarter by four points, but another burst from Latrobe City handed the Energy an 89-64 win. Nala Tubb worked hard for Keilor, posting a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Jessica Francke was the club’s leading scorer with 19. There was no stopping Latrobe’s Lindsay Horbatuck, who dominated the game with 29 points and 28 rebounds. The Thunder bounced back with a four-point win against Sunbury on Sunday, 63-59.
