Big V women: Keilor Thunder’s consistency key to away win

Keilor secured a vital away win in division 1 women’s Big V basketball on Saturday night, defeating Craigieburn by seven points.

The Thunder was quick out of the blocks, taking advantage of poor shooting by the Eagles in the opening term to hold a four-point lead at the first break.

Craigieburn found better range from the floor in the second, but Keilor stuck with the Eagles every step of the way.

After being outscored in the second quarter by two points, the Thunder rebounded to win the second half by five points and secure a 77-70 win.

Keilor was well served by Kristen Mavor, who finished with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Jessica Francke was up to her usual tricks with 15 points.

Keilor moved to sixth place on the division 1 ladder with Saturday’s victory.

The Thunder will be doing double duty this weekend.

Keilor will start round six with an away game against Latrobe City on Saturday night, followed by a home game against Sunbury
on Sunday.

Things weren’t so good for Keilor’s division 2 men, who went down to Pakenham on Saturday night by 15 points.

The Thunder remained within striking distance of the Warriors in the first half.

But a poor third term allowed Pakenham to pull clear.

On what was a tough night for Keilor, Blake Charles worked hard to finish with nine points and 11 rebounds.

After winning its opening three games of the season, the Thunder has dropped four straight.
