Green Gully secured back-to-back wins in the National Premier League for the first time with an impressive 3-2 victory against Bentleigh. The Cavaliers opened the scoring through a Mathew Sanders strike, but it didn’t take long for Bentleigh to find an answer. The Greens managed to equal the score just five minutes later through Luke Pilkington. Tied 1-1 at half-time, Green Gully found itself under pressure when Bentleigh was the first to break the deadlock in the second half. The Greens hit the front through Wayne Wallace. That left Green Gully looking for a spark and it came in the form of Jason Hayne. With the rain set in, Hayne levelled the scores after a penalty kick before putting the Cavaliers in front five minutes later to secure their third win of the season.
TAC Cup
The Western Jets enjoyed one of the best wins of the TAC Cup season on Saturday, defeating Gippsland by 36 points at Burbank Oval. After taking a one-point lead into the final term, the Jets took advantage of a strong wind. Western booted five majors and restricted the Power to just one point to secure an impressive win, 13.16 (94) to 8.10 (58). In wet and windy conditions, Brayden Monk was outstanding for the Jets and was named best on ground. He was well supported by Jackson Viola and Liam Duggan. Up forward, Mark Orr, Caleb Sullivan and Mitchell Norton were the club’s multiple goalscorers, finishing with two each. The Jets remain in fifth spot on the ladder with a 3-3 record.
