Keilor shooter Adam Vella has been selected for his fourth Commonwealth Games.
Vella will represent Australia in the clay target men’s trap at the Glasgow Games, which begin on July 23.
Ranked no.1 in Australia, Vella, 43, was an easy choice for selectors.
He will be joined on the team by other high-profile shooters including Russell Mark, Michael Diamond and Tom Turner.
“It’s great to qualify for another Commonwealth Games,” Vella said.
“I have never been to Scotland so I am really looking forward to that.”
Vella is no stranger to the big stage.
He has won gold at each of his three previous Commonwealth Games appearances and claimed a bronze medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004.
Vella hopes to add more medals to his growing collection.
“Gold is always the main goal,” he said. “If I can’t get gold I will take a silver, and if I can’t get silver then I will take a bronze. That is the way I am looking at it.
“If it doesn’t work out, I will dust myself off and get ready for Rio [2016 Olympic Games]. You go for the top spot and if you don’t get it, you will take whatever you can get.”
Vella, who competed in a World Cup event in Arizona last week, will have a packed schedule in the lead-up to the games.
He will compete in Munich later this month before attending training camps in Australia and overseas.
“I finished seventh in Arizona and I had a really big opportunity there. I was actually in second place going into the last round,’’ he said.
“I can feel my form ramping up.
‘‘I will be doing as much as I can in the way of physical and mental training, and keeping my fingers crossed that it all comes together on the day.”
