ALBERT PARK: Man’s body found in Cardigan Place

UPDATE: Police are investigating the death of a man they believe was murdered in Albert Park.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed a man’s body was found inside a townhouse in Cardigan Place, Albert Park, about 9.30am on Monday.

A family member found the 33-year-old with upper body injuries.

Joanna Kowenzowski, who works across the road from the house, saw a woman coming out of the house crying about 9am this morning.

“She was crying, crying and called her husband and I saw him running across the road,” she said.

“It was all happening outside, this sad moment. They hugged each other and cried.”

Homicide squad detectives are at the scene and the death is being treated as suspicious.

Investigators are keen to speak to witnesses or neighbours in the area who may have heard or seen anything suspicious.

A nearby shop owner said homicide detectives told her the man could have been inside the townhouse for as long as two weeks.

“They want footage that’s been taken with my camera from my shop going back three weeks,” she said.

Local shop owners Theopisti and daughter Helen believed the dead man to be a former customer.

They said he would often come to buy hardware materials from their shop across the road.

“He was a very quiet man, and a very good customer,” Theopisti said.

“Every time he came into the store, he smiled. A very good boy.”

Helen said the man – aged in his late 20s and a weekly customer – had not been into the shop for about three weeks.

“He was so nice and so well raised.

“When he saw you in the street, he would always say hello to you.”
