A good Samaritan has reunited a Melbourne man with a suitcase that had $16,000 cash inside, gaining $1000 as a reward.
A man found the suitcase containing the cash and some ID on a street corner in Sunshine on Tuesday afternoon, Victoria Police said.
He took it to the local police station and they made contact with the relieved 57-year-old owner of the suitcase.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said that the Sunshine businessman had lost the suitcase when he forgot to put it into his car and drove away, leaving it by the side of the road. The suitcase was not considered suspicious, she said.
The good Samaritan found the suitcase on the corner of Wright Street and Anderson Road in Sunshine about 5pm on Tuesday.
He looked inside to find the owner’s ID and handed the bag to Sunshine Police about an hour later.
“He’s stoked that it was returned,” the spokeswoman said of the businessman.
