COUNCIL SAYS ‘NO’ TO FORMER SCHOOL SITES (Weekly, April 1)

■ [Western Metropolitan Liberal MP] Bernie Finn promised before the election that the former Sunvale Primary School site would be used “in its entirety” for a community park. He stood on the site and promised to deliver.

What are election promises worth if they can just be tossed aside when the going gets tough?

I won’t be wasting my vote on the Liberals, who stood on a platform not to “neglect the west” but have failed to keep their promises.

OWNER CONFIDENT DOG’S DEATH ROW DAYS ARE OVER (Weekly, April 8)

■ Brimbank council is pushing for Mylo’s death even though he has done nothing. The council has spent thousands on this witchhunt and now it is just being cruel and stubborn.

JOBSEEKERS NEED TRAINING (Weekly, April 1)

■ Young jobseekers may need to understand and explore the world of work before launching into an apprenticeship, job or course they do not fully understand.

Local employment pathway programs that focus on young people’s strengths and interests – and that foster confidence and understanding of the world of work and the changing nature of one’s career – are vital.

Programs that respond to individual learning needs and offer work experience are ideal.

LET’S TRY LANE-FILTERING

■ To make our roads safer, the Napthine government should introduce a trial of motorcycle “lane-filtering” on Victorian roads.

This allows riders to travel between slow or stationary vehicles, to reduce congestion and improve motorcycle safety.

It is now legal in NSW, the UK and the US, and the government’s own inquiry into motorcycle safety recommended a lane-filtering trial.
