Australia’s new governor-general has made Melbourne’s west one of his first ports of call, meeting some of Victoria’s most disadvantaged and “at-risk” young people.
Governor-General Peter Cosgrove and Lady Cosgrove met about 40 young people at the 20th Man Fund’s leadership program on April 8 as part of their first official visit to Victoria.
20th Man Fund founder Les Twentyman said the program was aimed at helping young people set goals and finding ways to achieve them. “The kids that are part of the leadership program are from families who are dealing with some of the worst difficulties that can be faced,” he said. “It is just wonderful that the highest office in the land has found time to let these kids know how important they are to our community.”
