WONGA PARK: Man’s body found at golf club

UPDATE: There are reports that the body of a young fisherman, missing since going swimming a lagoon in Wonga Park on Monday, has been found by police.

Family of the 20-year-old Ringwood man were at Wonga Park lagoon watching search and rescue police scour the waterway for the him.

Numerous media outlets at the scene have reported that a body has been found. A Victoria Police spokeswoman said she could not yet officially confirm the reports.

The man was fishing with two friends in the lagoon near Heritage Golf Club before he decided to go for a swim about 5pm.

He then got into difficulties and disappeared under the surface of the water, a police spokeswoman said.

The friends’ swimming ability and the soft clay and mud hampered their efforts to save the Ringwood man, the spokeswoman said
