Places Victoria will present its official submission for a mixed-use precinct in Cairnlea to the state government next month.
With plans to cut down 300 sugar gums at the 72-hectare site, the urban renewal authority told the Weekly it had completed a flora and fauna report in response to community concerns.
Brimbank council has declared in-principle support for Places Victoria’s request for Planning Minister Matthew Guy to rezone the land next to Cairnlea Drive for commercial and residential development.
Defence’s recent decision to remove 22 trees from the site did not require a fauna assessment.
It came after a fallen tree damaged a neighbouring fence.
“The tree removal and pruning works currently being undertaken by Defence are not related to any proposed mixed-use precinct or other potential development of the area,” a Defence spokesman said.
