Lapping it up for YMCA Swimathon in Derrimut

Migrants will benefit from funds raised in this year’s YMCA Swimathon.

Derrimut Health and Aquatic Centre will direct all funds from the March 2 event to establishing a swimming program for newly arrived Brimbank residents.

Centre co-ordinator Jessica Farrar says the program will focus on water safety.

Latest data from Life Saving Victoria shows the number of people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities who drowned almost doubled in the past financial year, from five to nine, representing 22 per cent of all drowning deaths statewide.

Swimathon teams or individuals seek sponsorship to swim laps of the pool.
