Police have arrested a man following a dramatic standoff that lasted more than eight hours on Thursday night.
The siege in Highett began about 3pm when police attended a home on the Nepean Highway.
A police spokeswoman said the man barricaded himself in his home threatening self harm.
Multiple police units, members of the Critical Incident Response Team, ambulance and other emergency service workers then surrounded the home.
Police finally entered the home at 11.30pm and arrested the man over outstanding warrants.
The police spokeswoman said there were no other injuries and no-one else was involved.
Two northbound lanes had been closed at Highett Road due to the incident but all lanes are now open.
