UPDATE: The hunt for an armed man thought to be involved in a burglary has come to an end after streets were blocked off for hours in Preston.
Albert Street in Preston was reopened just before 5pm after being blocked in both directions at Plenty Road since for around two hours while Special Operations Group officers descended on the area.
Inspector Adrian Dalzotto said that police had received intelligence that the man was in a house on Albert Street.
They had interviewed two people in the house, but made no arrests.
Inspector Dalzotto said traffic was diverted as a precaution because the investigation involved the use of a firearm and they feared the man could still be armed.
He said that the burglary took place on Tuesday morning elsewhere but did not comment further, saying the investigation was ongoing.
Traffic had been backed up to Wood Street, about 2km south-west of the intersection of Plenty Road and Albert Street.
Vicroads said Albert Street was now open at Plenty Road.
