VSDCA: Sunshine Crows feel the heat against Melton

Sunshine wilted in the heat to be all out for a paltry 137 against struggling reigning Sub-District premier Melton on Saturday.

The Crows could not recover from a shaky start at Dempster Park and were bowled out in 62.3 overs.

Player-coach Mark Brown was the rock that held the top order together, making a patient 12 off 76 balls.

But the problem for the Crows was that captain Kane Twentyman (3) and first drop David Bonavia (2) fell cheaply, putting pressure on the middle order.

Troy Stone produced a valiant 30 off 88 balls but also found himself a tad light on for assistance.

Short-lived help came from Fayaz Ughradar (24) and Nathaniel Bolus (15), but they could not turn their starts into meaningful scores.

Nathan Armstrong, coming into the game on the back of two ducks, helped push the total beyond triple figures with 29 in the lower order.

But if the Crows are battling in 12th place of the 14 teams they’re still ahead of bottom-placed Melton, which is playing nowhere the level it reached when it won the title 10 months ago.

Nor is it batting with any confidence, and is the lowest-scoring team in the competition to this point.
