UPDATE: A second man who police allege played a part in the murder of missing Deer Park man Ricky Lee Ganly has been granted bail.
Stewart Hutchinson, 30, of Avoca, appeared briefly in Ballarat Magistrates Court this morning and was bailed under his own undertaking after police did not oppose his application.
Hutchinson is charged with one count of accessory to murder.
Slumped in the dock, Hutchinson showed no emotion apart from thanking magistrate Cynthia Toose.
Hutchinson’s co-accused, Jesse Willis, 28, of Maryborough, was charged with Mr Ganly’s murder on Tuesday.
Mr Ganly, 48, was last seen by his girlfriend at his Doherty Street home in Deer Park about noon on Sunday, April 28 last year.
Phone records showed his last movements were in Avoca between April 28 and 29.
Willis’ police remand summary, seen by The Courier, alleges he made admissions to killing Mr Ganly.
Willis was arrested in Maryborough by Homicide Squad Missing Person Unit detectives about 4pm on Sunday, less than two hours after police hauled Mr Ganly’s Magna sedan and a body from the bottom of a flooded Avoca mine.
Police allege Hutchinson played a part in the murder by helping Willis dispose of Mr Ganly’s car and the body, believed to be Mr Ganly’s.
A post mortem on the body revealed the cause of death was a single gun shot to the back of the head.
Hutchinson was bailed to appear in Ballarat Magistrates Court on June 5 for a committal mention hearing.
He must report to the Avoca police station three times a week.Willis was remanded on Tuesday to re-appear in Ballarat Magistrates Court on June 5 for a committal mention hearing.
