The state government is being urged to investigate the possible extension of tramlines to Brimbank.
Making its submission to the government’s 40-year Plan Melbourne strategy, Brimbank council also called on the government to focus on the western section of the east-west link, on a Melbourne Airport rail link and on the Melbourne metro rail tunnel project.
“[Plan Melbourne should] examine the extension of tramlines into the middle ring suburbs of Melbourne’s west to further improve public transport options beyond rail and bus services,” the council submission stated.
The council wants bus services increased, and it called for Organ Pipes National Park, Brimbank Park, Sydenham Park and Horseshoe Bend Farm to be recognised as tourism assets.
The council’s 2012 Sunshine town centre structure plan floated the possibility of a feasibility study into light rail along Ballarat Road from Footscray to Caroline Springs.
