Bowls Victoria: Deer Park back to the top in division 1

Deer Park returned to the top of the ladder in Bowls Victoria div 1 sec 1 with an away win over Montmorency on Saturday.

After dropping down the table with two losses, Deer Park travelled to bottom side Montmorency and won 84-72, taking three rinks and drawing another.

The Deers are two points and one win ahead of second-placed Werribee and third-placed Richmond Union.

But Werribee’s shot difference of +175 is 100 greater than Deer Park’s and easily the best in the competition.

Deer Park hosts ninth-ranked Preston-Reservoir this Saturday.

In div 2 sec 1, Sunshine City dropped to fifth on the table following a three-rink, 99-62 loss to Yarraville-Footscray.

Div 2 sec 2 saw Keilor break through for its fourth win of the season in an absolute nail-biter against West Coburg.

Each side won two rinks but Keilor prevailed by one shot, 78-77.

Div 3 sec 1 rivals Sunshine RSL and Sunshine VRI played out an entertaining game, with the rinks evenly split but RSL taking the win 90-73.

The win moved RSL to eighth, while VRI is ninth, a single point ahead of last-placed Laverton.

In div 4 sec 1, St Albans had a hefty 62-95 loss to Keilor’s second team.

St Albans won only one rink for the afternoon.
