A heart has been discovered inside a plastic bag in Ballarat hospital.
The heart was found in the staff area of a hospital in Ballarat on Thursday.
Pathology tests are now being conducted to determine if it is a human heart, or from an animal.
A Victoria Police spokesman said the homicide squad had been notified as a matter of course.
