Bowls Victoria: Sunshine VRI put up a good fight

Sunshine VRI remains second-last on the Bowls Victoria division 3, section 1 table after another competitive afternoon resulted in a loss on Saturday.

Away to Maribyrnong Park on a green player Eddie Foss described as “like a billiards table”, VRI won only one rink in a 90-75 loss.

It was VRI’s sixth straight loss, but the team faces winless Laverton this Saturday.

Foss said Maribyrnong Park was “too consistent”.

“I don’t think we looked like we were in the game,” he said. “They played very well and we kept battling like we tend to do, but at the end of the day they were too good.

“You’ve gotta know your limitations and we’re not quite there yet.”

To cap off an ordinary day, VRI’s second side, playing in division 7, north section 2, beat Aberfeldie but lost 25 per cent of its score because of missing players.

Deer Park has slipped to third in division 1, section 1 following a 86-16 to 64-2 loss to top side Richmond Union. Deer Park won its first five games but has lost its past two.

Sunshine City jumped to fourth in division 2, section 1 with a 87-16 to 72-2 win over Newport.

In division 2, section 2, Keilor smashed Sunbury 94-16 to 53-2; Sunshine RSL lost 83-14 to 70-4 against Melton in division 3, section 1; and St Albans lost 81-14 to 72-4 to Altona in division 4, section 1.
