Cyclists to get an easier run on St Albans Road

A section of St Albans Road will be made more bicycle-friendly after the state government committed $650,000 to upgrades which are due to begin early next year.

The speed limit for traffic between Furlong and Gilmour roads will be reduced from 70 to 60km/h as part of safety improvements.

A skid-resistant surface and new on-road bicycle lanes will be added and an existing bike path upgraded.

Western Metropolitan Liberal MP Bernie Finn said the works would provide a much-needed safety boost.

‘‘In the five years to the end of 2012, there were six casualty crashes at this location, including one fatality and three with serious injury, ’’ he said.

VicRoads expects work to be completed by mid-2014.
