Bowls Victoria: Deer Park enjoys unbeaten weekend

Deer Park’s sensational start to the Bowls Victoria Pennant competition continued on Saturday with all four of its sides winning for the third week in a row – a club record.

The Deers’ four teams are all in the top three and have lost just two of 16 matches.

The division 1, section 1, team had a remarkable come-from-behind victory over the previously undefeated Kingsbury on Saturday.

Trailing by 14 shots at the half – and after a spray from the chairman of selectors – Deer Park picked up 23 shots to zero in the second term to record a 90-81 victory.

The rinks were split between Deer Park and Kingsbury, but Rob Campbell (27-17) and Paul Dorgan’s (26-19) rinks did enough damage to turn the game around.

Club president Ray Franksen, currently out with a back injury, said the club was riding a wave of momentum.

“It was very good to win over at Kingsbury on carpet,” he said.

“Their consistency got the better of us in the first half, but we turned it around and once we put pressure on them they folded.

“We’re going well … to have all four sides win three weeks in a row is unheard of. It’s a very good effort.”

Deer Park hosts winless bottom side MCC this Saturday.

In division 2 section 1, Sunshine City was thumped 54-106 by Altona. Keilor lost 52-83 to Lalor in division 2 section 2.

Division 3 section 1 saw Sunshine VRI crash to a 61-124 loss to Melton, while in division 4 section 1, St Albans had a narrow 77-70 win over Sunbury.
