Neighbours have come to the rescue of an elderly woman who was unaware part of her house had caught on fire in Ardeer.
Neighbours knocked on the 90 year-old’s front door, McLaughlin Street, Ardeer, shouting for her to get out immediately just before 2pm on Saturday.
Within just a few minutes of her escape, smoke had filled out the house.
A working smoke alarm had been fitted but was located in the bathroom area at the other end of the house.
Metropolitan Fire Brigade had the fire under control in about 30 minutes. The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault in a ceiling fan, causing an estimated $40,000 in damage.
The woman was treated for shock by paramedics at the scene but was otherwise uninjured.
