Deer Park remains unbeaten in division 1 section 1 of Bowls Victoria pennant competition after a 19-shot win over Werribee on Saturday.
Werribee had the form heading into the game after a 70-point annihilation of MCC a week earlier but couldn’t match a committed Deer Park outfit
The rinks were split two apiece but, crucially for Deer Park, Neil Smith (34-13) and Rob Campbell (22-9) recorded large victories.
Paul Dorgan’s rink lost 19-17, while Adam Berry’s went down 25-13. Overall Deer Park prevailed 83-64
Club president and bowler Ray Franksen praised the win and the club’s successful start to the season.
“It was played in atrocious conditions,” he said.
“The wind was horrible but we’ve had three straight wins and you can’t ask for more than that.
“We were very pleased. We went in at half-time about 10 shots up before Werribee pegged it back but in the last half a dozen ends we scooted away.”
Deer Park is away to ladder-leader Kingsbury this Saturday.
“We beat them in a practice match earlier in the year so we’re confident of a good showing,” Franksen said.
In division 2 section 1, Sunshine City defeated Rosamond 81-75.
In division 2 section 2, Keilor romped to a 102-62 win over Clifton Hill.
Division 3 section 1 saw Sunshine VRI go down 98-70 against Altona and Sunshine RSL lose 94-64 to Hoppers Crossing.
St Albans lost 88-79 to Yarraville/Footscray in division 4 section 1.
