Hong Kong sprinter Lucky Nine will have its first look at Moonee Valley ahead of next Friday’s Group 1 Manikato Stakes on Tuesday morning as trainer Caspar Fownes ramps up the star’s preparation.
Fownes arrived in Melbourne yesterday to check up on the multiple group one winner’s progress and was happy with what he saw. He is planning to give the horse a strong gallop over 1100m tomorrow, the only time the horse will see Moonee Valley before the Manikato.
“He needs a little bit of work because he hasn’t raced for a while. Brett (Prebble) rode him in a gallop last week and was happy with him so he’s looking good,” Fownes said.
Brett Prebble will again be in the saddle for tomorrow’s gallop.
Fellow international visitors and Cox Plate runners Side Glance and Mull Of Killough will gallop at Moonee Valley on Thursday morning.
