An 18-hour siege at a house in Pakenham has ended peacefully, with a man who was feared to have a gun handing himself in to police.
The 32-year-old man barricaded himself inside a home on Gardinia Street in Pakenham before 11am on Monday but surrendered about 6am on Tuesday.
Authorities believed he had a gun and had cordoned off the house.
A police spokeswoman said the man was alone in the house.
Seven News tweeted a chilling image of a man standing on the balcony of the property with what appeared to be a gun pointed at their helicopter shortly before 6pm on Monday night.
Negotiations with the man continued throughout the night.
Police said the man was undergoing a psychiatric assessment and would be interviewed at a later stage over possible firearms offences.
