Arts to blossom in Errington

The new Errington Community Centre in St Albans will include a 200-seat, multipurpose performing arts space thanks to a $2.5 million donation from the St Albans Community Centre Co-operative.

Brimbank chairman John Watson said the contribution would allow the council to deliver more than first planned as part of its $20.5 million Errington precinct masterplan. The performing arts space, to be built by early 2016, will be located to the west and south-west of Errington Oval.

“This doubles the scope of the project,” he said.

Administrator Peter Lewinsky said the “significant philanthropic gesture” was a boon for residents.

“It’s something that happens from time to time, but you never think it will happen in your community,” he said.

Co-operative president and former Keilor mayor Jack Sheridan said the group was pleased to fund a project that would benefit all St Albans residents.
