MY SUBURB: Emily-Jane Purificato, Deer Park

When the director of Disney’s Camp Rock – The Musical told Deer Park singer Emily-Jane Purificato, 18, she had won a major role, she screamed with excitement. Having already performed in a production of High School Musical, she knew she was about to be part of a great show.

Favourite neighbourhood retreat?

Keilor cemetery. I like to visit my grandfather there. He died almost six years ago, and I reminisce about the good times we had together. He paid for my singing lessons, starting my career. I also like hanging out at Trill Music Studio in Caroline Springs. I feel happiest when I’m there.

Favourite place to get coffee or a bite to eat?

I like La Porchetta at Watergardens; the garlic prawns and chicken parmas are good. Tin Roof Cafe on Keilor Road – everything is good there.

What would you change in your neighbourhood?

I don’t think I’d change anything except the Deer Park train station’s location. It’s behind my house and it’s too noisy!

What wouldn’t you change?

I like the shopping centres, particularly Watergardens. And everyone in my street is really friendly; we live in a family-oriented area.

Most embarrassing moment when out and about?

At the movies in 2007 I was checking out a good-looking guy and I slipped on a piece of paper on the floor. He saw me fall over. That was embarrassing!

» Camp Rock – The Musical will be staged at the Randall Theatre, South Yarra, from October 17 to 27 (except Monday and Tuesday).
