Melbourne Knights Football Club will celebrate its 60th
anniversary by hosting the 39th annual Australian-Croatian Soccer
Tournament in October.
The Sunshine club will welcome 56 teams from October 3-6 with the help of a $42,000 federal government Liveable Communities grant.
“It’s massive,” tournament co-ordinator Katarina Jusup said. “It was a nice surprise.
“Before the grant there was a fear we’d only be able to put on a budget tournament.
“It’s hard to attract sponsorship and donations in these tough
economic times, so the money will deliver a tournament an event of this
magnitude deserves.”
This year’s tournament will include men’s and women’s competitions
and an exhibition match between local African communities in the main
stadium.
