TWO Brimbank companies will have a greener edge after receiving grants to cut emissions and recycle more effectively.
Deer Park manufacturer Momentive Specialty Chemicals hopes to
reduce energy use by up to 48 per cent by replacing its continuous resin
production line with two more efficient units.
The units are expected to be running next year and will cut the company’s annual energy bill by up to $123,000.
A $270,000 federal government grant will fund 30 per cent of the transition.
“The old blower ran at a fixed speed regardless of the required production rate,” director John Tohill said.
“The new blowers can be ramped up or down to match demand, and they will also use energy more efficiently.
“This blower replacement project is the largest energy project
undertaken at our Melbourne site so far, and the first time that we have
sought government grant assistance.”
Action Recovery and Recycling in Brooklyn received a $500,000
state government grant to build a centre to recover commercial and
industrial waste that would otherwise go straight to landfill.
