RE: JOBS CRISIS (Weekly, August 6)

■ Sunshine has been declared Melbourne’s newest growth hub.

With all these unemployed people, there should be more funding for
education and training for the existing young people to get them
employed – not more “growth” in housing.

With 1500 new people moving to Melbourne each week, population growth is much faster than jobs growth.

This is a potential disaster unless there are some very big projects to be delivered to create jobs.

RE: FEDERAL ELECTION
(Weekly, August 6)

■ As usual, welfare recipients are being ignored in the election campaign.

No matter who gets elected, life’s just going to get even more
difficult for Australia’s poorest families. This country’s got blinkers
on when it comes to poverty. Look at the devastation welfare “reforms”
are causing in the UK and that just might happen here, too, if Abbott
gets in. Neither party seems to have any definitive policies concerning
welfare.
