Sunshine station fight halts trains

A FIGHT between two youths at the Sunshine station spilled onto the tracks and stopped trains on Wednesday afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said there was an argument between two youths that were known to each other.

‘‘They jumped onto the tracks and the train was stopped,’’ the spokeswoman said.

‘‘One fellow was running along the tracks and the other fellow was chasing him.’’

A weapon was also ‘‘located at the station,’’ she said.

Police arrested one of the youths, who was being interviewed in relation to assault and threats to cause injury.

Sunbury line trains were suspended in both directions for almost an hour.

Services resumed by 4pm, with recovery delays of 15 minutes reported by Metro Trains on Twitter.
