THE number of people languishing on public housing waiting lists in Sunshine has dropped, but there’s still room for improvement.
Housing Minister Wendy Lovell said the list at the Sunshine office had been cut by 107 since March, with 3716 applicants for the June quarter.
She said better management of public housing had underpinned the reduction.
“We have reviewed vacancy rates and turnover procedures and times, and are working harder with those who have been waiting the longest,” she said.
“We are also making people more aware of their options with regard to community housing, bond loans for the private rental market and other assistance.”
