ONE of the western suburbs’ strongest tennis clubs remains on the lookout for new talent as it clocks up 50 years at Sassella Park.
Deer Park Tennis Club has about 300 members and three of the club’s 15 teams won premierships last year.
But life member Shane Braszell says new blood is still needed.
“We have about 100 members playing competition team tennis with the club each week,” he said.
The club has come a long way since its inception near the Deer Park Hall in the 1930s.
It moved to Sassella Park in 1963 and is now under the guidance of former Association of Tennis Professionals-ranked Gim Kurti.
Members are seeking wooden racquets and white balls for a ’60s retro tournament in November.
The club also runs social tennis nights each Tuesday and Sunday from 7pm to 9.30pm.
