NINE cars have been impounded in a five-day crackdown on hoon driving in Brimbank.
The third phase of Operation Evergreen stung 146 drivers for offences including 11 unlicensed driving, 13 unregistered vehicles and 46 for speeding.
Police impounded the cars of two motorists for hoon behaviour; they stopped four for excessive speed and three for driving with a suspended or disqualified licence.
Acting Sergeant Adam Wojcik said the July 14-19 operation aimed to break any belief that hoon behaviour was acceptable. “Despite our best efforts to get a clear message across regarding road safety, people are still out there driving unregistered cars, exceeding speed limits and driving in a manner that is not only dangerous to themselves but other people,” he said. “We conduct operations like Evergreen at any given time.”
Acting Sergeant Wojcik said police were concerned at the number of offences detected.
“Hooning is a problem in the western parts of Melbourne, particularly in Brimbank, and we are committed to detecting and prosecuting offenders.”
