WRFL: Ciarlo’s eight a Heights ‘high’

SUNSHINE Heights recovered from a poor fortnight in Western Region Football League division 2 on Saturday, belting West Footscray by 99 points, 22.11 (143) to 6.8 (44).

After a shock 33-point loss to Caroline Springs and a 40-point defeat at the hands of Glen Orden, the Dragons were back to some of their best against the Roosters.

James Ciarlo booted eight goals after being held goalless in the previous two weeks while Greg Porter (three goals) was best on ground.

Sunshine Heights booted six goals in the opening term and kept West Footscray to just three points, shutting out any hopes the Roosters had of an upset with seven goals to one in the second term. Leading by 73 points at half-time, the Dragons kicked another five goals in the third quarter to edge further ahead, but a 100-point winning margin was thwarted by three goals from the Roosters in the final quarter.

DIVISION 1:  Sunshine defy headwinds St Albans Saints

The Dragons cannot miss the finals with only two games to go, but will need to be at their very best to knock off Wyndham Vale and Parkside.

Braybrook got its fifth win of the year, over North Sunshine, kicking 25.7 (157) to the Roadrunners’ 6.10 (46). Caroline Springs had a hot start against Manor Lakes with five goals to one in the first quarter, but it went on to lose 10.4 (64) to Manor Lakes’ 25.18 (168). The Lakers were unable to stop Storm forward Ty Priest, who bagged 10 for a year’s tally of 92.

Albanvale suffered a 159-point loss to Glen Orden: 30.13 (193) to 5.4 (34).
