UPDATE: A large fire at a Sunshine North scrap metal yard has been brought under control.
Large plumes of smoke were visible across the western suburbs earlier this morning after fire crews were called to the Davies Avenue property at 9.04am.
It’s believed the 300-square-matre fire was fuelled
by old tyres and automotive parts, not vehicles as initially reported by
a local firefighter.
The fire was brought under control in 45 minutes, with 27 firefighters at the scene.
“Their quick response prevented it from spreading to neighbouring properties,” an MFB spokesperson said.
Eight appliances from various stations attended the scene.
