Taylors Lakes man charged over tow truck

POLICE have charged a 29-year-old Taylors Lakes man, arrested this morning after allegedly fleeing from a stolen tow truck in Cairnlea.

The owner of the truck, which was reported stolen on May 22, saw his truck being driven by two men in Altona North around 2am.

He lost sight of the truck but continued to drive around before finding it again on the Western Ring Road at 4am.

The Sunshine divisional van located the vehicle and followed it along Station Road, Deer Park.

At the intersection of Station Road and Parklea Road the truck left the road and went down a slight embankment before two men jumped from the cabin and ran from the scene.

The Taylors Lakes man was charged with theft of motor vehicle, two counts of theft of number plates, going equipped to steal, driving in a manner dangerous, careless driving, affixing false plates, driving whilst licence suspended and criminal and wilful damage.

He will face the Sunshine Magistrates Court this afternoon.

Police are still searching for the second man.
