GREEN Gully’s road clash with the Richmond Eagles was abandoned after 70 minutes because of inclement weather in the Victorian Premier League on Friday night.
The players were ordered off Kevin Bartlett Reserve by match officials with the threat of lightning and a water-logged pitch playing on their minds. Gully was leading 2-1 at the time after scoring through player-coach Jeffrey Fleming and striker Jason Hayne.
Football Federation Victoria was awaiting a referee’s report to determine the next course of action when the Weekly went to press.
It was a big week for the Melbourne Knights, the western suburbs’ most famous soccer club. The Knights celebrated their 60th anniversary with a gala ball on Saturday night.
Former Socceroos and many of their players from the National Soccer League days attended.
The Knights also revealed during the week that it would not be submitting an expression of interest in the FFV’s newly formed ‘elite’ National Premier League Victoria.

In other results, Sunshine George Cross picked up a point in a 1-1 draw away to Moreland Zebras in state league 1.
A nine-man Westgate had a thrilling 4-4 draw with Avondale Heights in state league 2, while Sydenham Park thrashed La Trobe University 5-0 and Keilor Park was knotted 1-1 with Whittlesea Ranges.
Western Eagles split the points in state league 4 in a 1-1 draw with Hoppers Crossing. Keilor Wolves had a 2-1 win over Spring Hills FC in state league 5, while Balmoral was beaten 3-1 by Melbourne Tornado.
