RESIDENTS will find out in August when work will start on the upgrade of Sunshine public library.
Brimbank council announced the upgrade, which will include more community meeting and program space and office accommodation, in February as a major feature of its $44.76 million capital works program for the next year.
About $200,000 has been set aside for the design of a new community centre in St Albans and $150,000 for extending Westvale Community Centre’s car park.
The council will also spend $5.2 million on sports facilities, with $1.5 million on three more courts at Keilor Basketball and Netball Stadium, along with changeroom upgrades and toilets.
Acting community well-being director Neil Whiteside said stadium works would start in March and take a year to complete.
Keilor Ratepayers Association president Susan Jennison questioned whether Keilor residents were getting enough bang for their buck.
“I’d love to know what proportion Keilor residents contribute to the overall budget and what is returned in capital works,” she said.
Sunshine will receive two new tennis courts at Parsons Reserve; $1.2 million will be spent on changerooms at the Keilor Recreation Reserve; and $400,000 for lighting upgrades at Beachley Reserve’s rugby pitch in Sunshine and Keilor Park’s third soccer pitch.
Council will spend $500,000 on upgrading playgrounds, including a new playground in Taylors Lakes; $480,000 on upgrading West Sunshine’s Dalton Reserve; and $440,000 to upgrade St Albans’ Wahgunyah Drive Reserve.
